first off, pretty cool idea vark. the song is a tad busy though. it's my personal preference for it, but I'd move vampire killer to the fore of the song...

crosspostin' my albums of the year: halfway point special

and for people waiting furiously for my mid-year update, here are the top 5 albums of the first half of the year (saying that because I haven't given new fair to midland a chance yet). honestly, this has been one of the best seasons for music in years.

honorables: Ulver, TesseracT, Between the Buried and Me EP. I also didn't give Devin Townsend's 'Ghost' that fair a listen yet.

    5. Radiohead - King of Limbs (possibly their worst, but they're moving away from albums onto some other planet. Awesome tracks include 'lotus flower' mainly)
    4. TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light (their mellowest, but these dudes have yet to release a bad album. 'second song' is a great opener)

    2. The Dear Hunter: The Color Spectrum (yeah, it's a cop-out for a tie, but the two albums couldn't be further from each other. The Dear Hunter's collection is a series of 9 EP's released under one roof. each set of 4 songs is its own feel, from acoustic feel good, industrial rock and showtune style. there are clunkers in the 36 songs, but there's just so much amazing material that I'd feel bad giving it third)

    2. UnexpecT - Fables of the Sleepless Empire (experimental metal from quebec. bass work and songwriting are insane. lots of gothic chamber stuff. this album was worth the six year wait.)

    1. Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction (I love. this album. Devin Townsend is the Frank Zappa of metal. Townsend is possibly the best producer in rock today and each song is exceptional. 'Deconstruction' and 'The Mighty Masturbator' are epics, some of the best in Townsend's catalog. One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite musicians.)

So, this pretty much shows which albums I have reviewed in their entirety. Not all the music, but getting there. I think there's like, 1000+ albums on my Zune.

Also some John Maus for good measure:

This song is pretty unremarkable, but the main reason I'm posting this is because of the amazing, reference-laden music video. Be sure the watch the whole thing, since there's lots of unexpected moments. It's gorgeous and hilarious.

how did i not know about Mission of Burma before now?

goddammit i was born at least five years too late.

this reminds of the video for Seether's cover of Careless Whisper, only both the song and the video are much, much better.
